CLOSET ROTATION
Rotating your closet (wardrobe) by seasons is a super helpful step in wardrobe management. Not only does it ensure your current seasons items are within reach , it also is a good way to purge and fill gaps as needed. Trust me, I know it can be overwhelming so here are a few tips to help you tackle the job.
BEFORE STARTING:
#1 Make sure you block out enough time to finish the job at once. Trying to do it over time is a sure way to burn yourself out and miss important steps
#2 Make sure you have ample storage containers and hangers. Your local discount store will have great options for really reasonable prices.
#3 Start in a relatively empty/ cleared out space. The process can get messy. Don’t cloud your process by working in a cluttered space.
STEPS:
#1 Inspect: as you remove items to rotate take a close look at each garment. Look for signs of wear and tear such as missing buttons, broken zippers, pilling, snags or holes. Can it be fixed?
#2 Evaluate: you will want to determine if this garment will stay in your wardrobe. If the garment is in good condition (according to step one) now you want to ask yourself a few questions.
• Is this a garment that you will want to wear next year?
• Is it flattering?
• Have you worn it in the last year (excluding specialty items such as formal wear)
#3 Sort: BE DECISIVE! Keep or purge! Find a great new home for purged items and get it out right away!!!
STORE:
#1 carefully fold out of season items and store them in bins. Use lavender sachets for winter items to avoid critters eating up your clothing!
#2 Fold and or hang in season items
#3 Save room for “seasonless” pieces. This step is important if you live in an area where the temperature fluctuates as the seasons change.
#4 Inventory: take note of key pieces that you may need to replace or that are missing. Use my wardrobe essentials checklist to help you! (Insert the right link here)
